Edgar Cayce, Sounds for Meditation (SFM) was created to be listened to by your whole
body, not just your ears! In his book Auras, Cayce explains that there is a symbiotic
relationship between the seven energy body centers (chakras) and corresponding physical
body centers (endocrine glands). Thus, harmonizing the chakra centers tends to harmonize
the endocrine centers as well.
When listening to SFM, it is best that the sound energy interacts with your whole body. Listening on headphones limits the interaction to the head area. An analogy would be to compare the effect of laying on the beach as the ocean waves sweep over your whole body (speaker listening),versus the limited effect of dipping your big toe into a swimming pool (headphone / earbud listening).
Check It Out!
Play a sample track. As the music begins, take a deep breath. Close your eyes lightly. Notice how your body feels. Many people not only notice changes in Chakra areas, they notice that points in their hands, feet or other areas of their body tingle or feel warm. Play a track with your dog or cat in the room and watch their reaction....it's fun!
It Doesn't Have To Be Loud
Because of its Sonic Purity, SFM does not have to be played loudly to be effective. Notice that when you listen to this music, even at a low level, that it seems to go right through you. SFM is effective even when played over computer speakers or a small personal stereo system; or play SFM on a full range music system and let the sonic wave wash over your body for a transformational experience!
SFM Has Many Uses
Although SFM was originally designed to facilitate a meditative state and harmonize chakra energies, those who have purchased the CD advise us that there are many uses for our music. SFM does not have a melody or beat to interfere with clearing the mind for meditation or healing, yet it is ever changing and always pleasant to listen to. In addition to facilitating meditative states, SFM can be used in other ways to create a relaxed atmosphere for help with insomnia, calming children and even quieting pets. Many people tell us that they play the CD on their computer or personal stereo at work to have "relaxed expanded awareness" all day long. Others use SFM as a pick-me-up during a break-time or lunch-time. Our experience is that SFM can be used to enhance either relaxation or awareness...you decide by your intention.
Massage therapists find that SFM to enhances their massage work. Those involved with Sound Table work tell us that SFM is simply awesome in this application! Those engaged in Energy Work find that SFM aids their clients in removing blocks to energy flow and enhances chakra balancing.
We do not recommend listening to SFM while driving.
Why Isn't SFM Available as a Download?
SFM was manufactured in a clean room environment using the latest replication equipment for the highest quality playback. Sound files must be ripped using a codec like MPEG-3 to reduce their size for Internet transmission. These codecs reduce file size by leaving out "unnecessary" sound information. Although ripping may have a limited effect on many sound files,it can reduce the effectiveness of SFM sound files. Therefore, we do not offer SFM as a music download.

The Wisdom of Edgar Cayce
This CD is based on the wisdom of Edgar Cayce . In the book Auras , penned by Edgar Cayce , the seven Solfege Tones (do, re, mi, etc.) are said to correspond to seven Auric Colors. What we also found was that the Auric and Chakra colors correspond as well. Therefore, we use Cayce's musical Solfege Tones in ascending order from Root Chakra to Crown Chakra in live performances of Chakra Mediation.
The Power of Sonic Purity
The unique sound of Edgar Cayce, Sounds For Meditation is due to the historic tuning used in its performance. This tuning gives the music the quality of Sonic Purity which is missing in today's music. My early research indicated that this quality would increase the effectiveness of meditation, relaxation and healing music.
The feedback from those who use SFM convinces me more than ever that for music used to facilitate meditation, relaxation, and healing: the more the quality of Sonic Purity is present in the music....the better the body-mind and energetic body respond.
Today's music, including most meditation music, is performed using instruments tuned in Tempered Tuning. Tempered Tuning is the de facto standard for music performed and recorded today. Instruments including piano, guitar, and modern orchestral instruments are designed to be tuned in this way.
Tempered Tuning is the popular choice for contemporary music with it's complex tonality. Today's musicians and composers find that the qualities of Sonic Shading and Sonic Variety are much more important than the quality of Sonic Purity. However, my research indicates that music used for meditation, relaxation, and healing does not need complex tonality to be effective and thus lends itself to performance using a historic tuning.
When doing Energy Work, it makes good sense to use the purest, highest vibrational tools available. In the same way that you get the best response in Aromatherapy Work using essences that are pure; you get the best response in Energy Work using music with the quality of Sonic Purity.
Music That Supports Meditation, Relaxation and Healing
Over the years, I have been interested in the genre of "meditation and healing" music. My experience with most music marketed as "meditation music" or "sound healing music" was that it did not help me relax or clear my mind due to it's tonal intensity and/or rhythmic, melodic and production elements. As a professional musician and piano technician, I would be the first to admit to my heightened sensitivity to sound as well as music.
When I decided to create music for meditation, relaxation, and healing, I wanted it to have the following qualities:
1) Based on the work of Edgar Cayce
2) Have an intrinsic tonal purity that is intense, yet relaxing.
3) Listening to this music, even for hours at a time, is rejuvenating and uplifting.
4) The music has a homogeneous, yet with a random melodic and rhythmic structure allowing my mind to disengage.
5) The music is performed and recorded with a positive, healing intention.

Jim Commander is a thirty year veteran of the music industry. He has a varied musical background as a keyboard player, audio engineer, producer and writer.
In 1988, Jim founded Millstream Music Productions, a company that specialized in commercial jingle and film score production for local and national clientele. It was during this time that he learned first hand about power of music and intention to influence emotional states of an audience. As a result, he is an advocate of listening to positive intention music as much as possible in order to foster positive emotional states.
In 1995, Jim turned a part-time job into a full time one when he started a piano restoration business. For the next nine years he took a sabbatical from the "music business" and concentrated on the piano craft. The knowledge he acquired about alternate historic tunings during a piano technician's workshop fascinated him at the time, but he had no idea what he might do with the information until 2004.
It was in 2004 that Jim was asked to create original music for a Sound and Light Meditation Workshop organized by Carl Bohannon at Edgar Cayce's ARE- Houston. The result was Edgar Cayce, Sounds for Meditation by Jim Commander,. At present, he is busy running his record label, Sonic Visionaire, and planning future musical projects.
